Chesterton Academy of St. George Announces New Athletic Director

The Chesterton Academy of St. George is thrilled to announce that our Executive Director, Mr. R.J. Lomas, will be taking on the additional role of Athletic Director!

As our academy continues to grow, we are committed to offering enriching opportunities for our students and their families. Currently, we provide a girls' volleyball program, along with co-ed bowling and track and field. Under Mr. Lomas’ leadership, we aim to expand these offerings, with plans to add scrimmages and meets in the coming year. As student interest and demand for additional sports increase, Mr. Lomas will lead the effort to develop new athletic programs.

“I had a great experience and formation with solid, positive coaches through sports early on, and I’ve been blessed by the Lord with a motivation to guide others and provide these experiences for students of the Academy. With a proper attitude and perspective, sports can challenge us and bear fruit. They teach teamwork, discipline, leadership, perseverance, and how to win and lose with grace — all qualities that shape well-rounded individuals who can succeed and serve others throughout their lives,” Mr. Lomas shared.

Mr. Lomas brings a deep passion for athletics and over 35 years of coaching and sports administration experience. He has coached boys’ and girls’ basketball at various schools, including the University of Detroit Mercy, U of D Jesuit, Shrine Catholic, Our Lady Queen of Martyrs, Brother Rice, St. Hugo, Wylie E. Groves, and Williamston High School. He also served as Director of Athletics at U of D Jesuit High School. His extensive experience will be invaluable in shaping a fun, competitive, and virtue-centered athletic program for our students.

We look forward to the continued growth of our athletic offerings and the positive impact they will have on our Academy community under Mr. Lomas’ guidance.
