Growing and Pursuing God's Greater Plan

An Important Announcement from the Chesterton Academy of St. George

Mr. Matthew Anderson - Founding Headmaster and new President of the Board

Four years ago, parents from the Jackson Area were called by God to embark on a great adventure: to start the first classical high school in the Catholic tradition here in Jackson, MI. During these past four years, God's path for the school has been filled with great blessings and challenges, oftentimes one and the same. He has grown the school, and the community around the school, in a way that is beautiful to behold.

Now, the school is ready to enter into the next phase of God's plan. From welcoming in the largest freshman class in our history next year, to starting a 7th & 8th grade enrichment program, we continue to strive to "make disciples of all nations" as Our Lord instructed us. However, we believe that this vision requires us to grow, to change, and to never simply remain in our comfort zone.

For this reason, we want to announce changes in our organization that we expect next year. In particular, our founding headmaster, Mr. Matthew Anderson, plans to assume a new role of leadership for the school as well as pursue new professional opportunities, opening up the role of headmaster for the 2025-2026 school year. Since 2021, Mr. Anderson has worked to establish and guide the Chesterton Academy of St. George because of his passion for the formation of young people as disciples of Christ. His commitment to a rich, classical liberal arts education and his love for the Catholic Church have been key factors in the beginning and continuation of this work.

Next year, he will continue to guide the school as he undertakes a new leadership role as President of the Board. Current president and co-founder, Mr. Joseph Gruber, will remain president of the associated foundation the St. George Foundation for the Classics. We hope this arrangement will allow for two things:

  • For the continuity of the vision and mission of the school through Mr. Anderson's leadership. He will work closely with the new headmaster and the faculty to continue to develop the excellent education offered at Chesterton Academy of St. George.

  • Expansion of cultural events and Catholic apostolates here at the Chesterton Academy facility through the further development of the St. George Foundation for the Classics under the leadership of Mr. Gruber with the assistance of Mr. Anderson. These works would include the new 7th & 8th grade enrichment program, adult education opportunities, and more that are in the works.

With Mr. Anderson moving into new roles, we are excited then to look for the new day-to-day leader of the school. We are looking for an individual with passion and new perspectives to continue to build up this great mission of evangelization. The job listing will be posted soon, but in the meantime please spread the word. Finally, please offer prayers of thanksgiving and petition to God, that His will and plan may be accomplished through our faithfulness in all things. With His grace, this change will secure the growth and development of the Academy well into the future.
