A Location for School Life

Bethany House, Jackson MI

Bethany House, Jackson MI

Human beings are embodied creatures; as such, our lives occur within the context of places. These places, especially in our youth, exert a powerful influence over the people we become. The location of the Chesterton Academy of St. George, then, carries an importance both practical and spiritual.

Praised be God, He has led us to a location with many blessings for our students. We are please to officially announce that the Chesterton Academy of St. George will be located in one of the wings of Bethany House in Jackson, MI. Bethany House is an adult care facility located at 1000 E Porter St, Jackson MI 49202. It has a strong Catholic spirituality and devotion to God, an important aspect of end of life care.

There were a number of factors that make Bethany House a particularly beautiful location for the school. First and foremost, as a former Felician orphanage, Bethany House already has a chapel with Our Eucharistic Lord truly present in the Tabernacle. Many Chesterton Academies do not have such a blessing early on, and we are grateful to God that He has graced us with this great source of grace. We will use the chapel for Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, reciting the rosary, retreats, and other spiritual devotions as appropriate. God willing, it will be a place where our students will more fully encounter the Risen Lord.

Second, as a former orphanage, the wing we will be occupying contains a number of amenities that aid in the well rounded life of the school. There is space for multiple classrooms, in addition to administrative and faculty rooms. The building has a sizeable gym that will be able to be used for sports and recreation. A large cafeteria sits off the main hallway and will be used for lunch and for public events.

Finally, the location of the building makes it easier for families that are planning to commute from a distance. Located just off I-94, the school will be more accessible for families from other cities and communities that are looking for the distinctive classical education that Chesterton Academy offers.

Over the next several months, we will need to have the location inspected by the proper state agencies and then have the work done to ensure that it is up to code. Pray for these inspections, that they may go smoothly, and consider making a donation to the St. George Foundation for the Classics to help cover these expenses.

Human beings are embodied creatures; as such, our lives occur within the context of places. These places, especially in our youth, exert a powerful influence over the people we become.

For families that are interested in seeing the location in person, we will be hosting a series of open houses over the next couple of months. Our first open house will be Wednesday, November 17th starting at 6:30 p.m. We will begin with a tour of the building, followed by an informational presentation about the school. All are welcome to join us!
